Buccaneers' Egbuka credits faith for career foundation
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka credits his Christian faith for driving his NFL career and personal life. The Ohio State product, whose Instagram handle reads "Christ Follower," embraced faith five years ago as a freshman. Egbuka shared these views after assembling hurricane disaster kits at a USAA event in Tampa.
Egbuka found faith during his early college days at Ohio State, where he later contributed to the team's 2024 national championship. He described how it brought peace, joy and a sense of identity amid mental struggles. "To put it simply, it’s such a big part of my life because of what Jesus has done in my life," Egbuka said.
"He kinda met me where I was five years ago now... I’ve been walking with Him ever since," he added. Egbuka views preaching the Gospel as part of his purpose and notes NFL peers such as Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins sharing their faith openly. He called it a privilege in a society allowing such expression without hostility.
Egbuka recently walked off the field after a Buccaneers win over the Carolina Panthers on Jan. 3, 2026, at Raymond James Stadium. His offseason includes community work on hurricane preparation, given family military ties including a grandfather who was a Navy SEAL and a father who served in the Army. The kits included whistles and safety blankets for Florida residents.
