Tiger Woods pleads not guilty, seeks jury trial after Florida DUI arrest

Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion and 82-time PGA Tour winner from the United States,[3][4] has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of driving under the influence causing property damage and refusal to submit to testing. He waived his arraignment and demanded a jury trial, according to court documents.[1]

Woods was arrested following a rollover crash on March 27, 2026, in Jupiter Island, Martin County, Florida.[1][2] The incident involved Woods' vehicle colliding with another car before rolling onto its side, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.[1]

An arrest affidavit from the Martin County Sheriff's Office detailed signs of impairment, including profuse sweating, lethargic movements, bloodshot and dilated eyes. Woods admitted looking at his phone and changing the radio station, failing to notice the slowing vehicle ahead. He also acknowledged taking "a few" prescription medications.[1]

Two white pills identified as hydrocodone were found in Woods' pocket after his arrest. A breathalyzer test at the jail showed 0.00 blood alcohol content on both samples, but he declined a urine test, resulting in an additional charge.[1]

During field sobriety tests, Woods cited seven back surgeries and more than 20 leg operations.[1][8]

The arrest marks Woods' second DUI-related incident. In 2017, he was arrested in neighboring Palm Beach County, Florida, after being found asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle; prescription medications including hydrocodone were involved. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.[5][6]

Woods sustained severe leg injuries in a separate single-vehicle rollover crash near Los Angeles on February 23, 2021, requiring multiple surgeries.[7][8]

Woods captains the Jupiter Links Golf Club team in the TGL indoor simulator golf league, where he recently returned to play after back surgeries and Achilles tendon repair.[9]
